A Night of Nostalgia, Music & Community Impact: BLOX Raises $2,560 for Skipping Stone

On April 12, the BLOX was absolutely buzzing as we threw it back to the ‘90s for one unforgettable night. Our fundraiser event, Bands as 90s Bands, brought together local Calgary talent to cover legendary ‘90s artists – all in support of an incredible cause: Skipping Stone.

The lineup? Nothing short of epic. CAS nailed the haunting energy of Radiohead, Window Lamp made us feel all the feels with The Cranberries, Lost Decade brought the intensity as Creed, Sunglaciers took on the beloved Eric’s Trip, and Amy Nelson gave us chills as Nirvana. Between sets, Molly Fi kept the energy flowing with a DJ set packed with ‘90s gems.

This night was about more than just great music –  it was about showing up for our community. We were blown away by the turnout, with over 350 people packing into the BLOX to dance, donate, and support Skipping Stone. Thanks to everyone’s generosity, we raised a total of $2560 – that’s $2,158 from door donations and another $402 (20% donation) from bar sales, all going directly to Skipping Stone’s life-changing programs.

For those unfamiliar, Skipping Stone is a Calgary-based non-profit that supports trans and gender-diverse youth, adults, and families. Their work focuses on creating affirming healthcare, education, and community resources. Since starting out, they’ve supported over 10,000 individuals across Alberta. If you haven’t yet, we encourage you to learn more about what they do at skippingstone.ca

This fundraiser is part of an annual tradition at BLOX – a night where we blend art activism, and local love. We’re so grateful to every artist who performed, every person who showed up, and everyone who donated. We’re already dreaming up next year’s version, and trust us — you’ll want to be there.
