Bands as Y2K Bands Raises $1,452 for Skipping Stone

On April 25, BLOX hosted our annual charity event, returning this year with a new theme: Bands as Y2K Bands.

Each year, the event takes on a different concept, inviting local artists to reimagine themselves through a fun, themed performance. In past years, we’ve celebrated Bands as Fake Bands and Bands as 90s Bands. This year, we brought it into the early 2000s with a night of Y2K-inspired sets, nostalgia, and community connection.

This year’s event supported Skipping Stone, a Calgary-based organization that provides affirming support for Two-Spirit, trans, and gender-diverse youth, adults, and families across Alberta.

The lineup showcased Calgary’s local music scene through a series of fun, tribute-inspired performances. Coda Club performed as The Killers, Yolanda Sargeant reimagined Erykah Badu, Samantha Savage Smith took on SLOAN, Gone Cosmic channelled Weezer, and Medusas brought Hole to the stage.

The evening brought together 220 attendees for a lively night of local music, throwback-inspired performances, and community support. Guests enjoyed a lineup of local artists who transformed the stage with playful, nostalgic sets that celebrated the spirit of the early 2000s.

Through entry donations and a portion of bar sales, Bands as Y2K Bands raised $1,452.25 for Skipping Stone.

We’re grateful to everyone who attended, donated, performed, volunteered, and helped bring the evening to life.

Thank you for supporting Skipping Stone, local artists, and community programming in the BLOX.
