Commonwealth has officially unveiled a major renovation, marking a new era for one of the Beltline’s most established cultural spaces. After 14 years as a hub for concerts, club nights, and creative events, the venue has completed a top-to-bottom refresh led by Blueprint — all while remaining open to the public through rolling renovations.

The redesign introduces a full rebrand with a new logo and visual identity, developed by Calgary-born designer Rory Doyle. Highlights include immersive LED lighting by Urban Visuals, an expanded stage, updated green rooms, refreshed VIP areas, and an enlarged mezzanine that improves sightlines throughout the venue. The lower level has also been relaunched as Common Underground, supported by a newly added bar to create more room for movement and programming. Visitors will also see new murals and artistic work led by Calgary artist Rhys Farrell (XYZ), as well as upgraded bathrooms and gathering areas.

Blueprint describes the project as part of its growing investment in Calgary’s cultural landscape. Founder Alvaro Prol says, “There’s real momentum in Calgary right now. There’s real buzz, growth, and energy, which is everything we want to be part of. This isn’t a one-off. We’re here to build a lasting cultural footprint and become a true part of the city’s nightlife and entertainment communities. The people of Calgary are incredible, the City is welcoming, and we’re grateful for the support. The vibe of the city is like nowhere else in Canada.”

With decades of work shaping Vancouver’s nightlife through venues like Celebrities and Fortune Sound Club, alongside major festivals such as FVDED in the Park and Chasing Summer, Blueprint sees Calgary as a city with strong momentum and long-term opportunity.

Commonwealth’s renovation is one of several Alberta-based projects under their umbrella, signalling a deeper commitment to supporting the region’s entertainment ecosystem.

With its refreshed look and renewed focus on Music. Culture. Community., Commonwealth steps forward into its next chapter as a cornerstone of Calgary’s creative scene.
