What is a Business Improvement Area? (BIA)
A Business Improvement Area (BIA) is a designated district where local businesses work together to enhance and promote their community. Funded by businesses within the area, a BIA focuses on beautifying streets, organizing events, improving safety, and supporting economic growth. It helps create a vibrant, welcoming environment for visitors, residents, and businesses alike. There are 15 BIAs in Calgary.
At the BLOX Business Improvement Area (BIA), we champion the businesses that make the Beltline a dynamic and thriving district. Our mission? To support economic growth, enhance public spaces, and create a strong sense of community through advocacy, events, and strategic initiatives.
What We Do:
✔ Business Support & Promotion – Marketing, collaborations, and branding initiatives to amplify local businesses.
✔ Advocacy & Representation – Working with all levels of government to ensure policies benefit our business community.
✔ Placemaking & Beautification – Streetscape improvements, public art, and activations that enhance the Beltline experience.
✔ Events & Community Engagement – From music festivals to markets, we create experiences that draw visitors and energize the area.
We are more than just an organization. We are advocates, connectors, and ambassadors of the Beltline. Whether through business support, advocacy, or unforgettable events, we are here to build a thriving, inclusive, and exciting urban community.
